*May 10th* As you can see from the pictures the puppies are growing, growing, growing! For their 6 week weigh-in on Friday the 7th - they ranged from 10 - 13 pounds :) Check out the new photos in the slide show below!
*May 5th Update* Yesterday was Genny family's introduction to the outside world and stairs... Now that's all they want! They are so inquisitive, playful, industrious puppies. All could hardly wait to try out the "Zooms" when they felt the freedom to run on the ground - they are precious, HAPPY, bundles at ~ 10 & 1/2 pounds & more! More pictures later when I get time :)
*April 30th Update* Puppies are five weeks old today!!! The puppies are healthy, happy, robust and weighed in today between 7 & ½ and 10 pounds!!!! They are well on their way to being potty trained to go on a pan that has Doggy Litter in it. This is the 1st time I’ve tried this product and am very happy with the results I’m seeing (used newspapers before). This is pellatized newspaper I purchased at Petco. They are eating solid food (softened) 3 times a day and Genny is getting a well-earned break in having to supply all that milk. She is still nursing – mainly standing up – and only 3 – 4 times a day – they drain her dry in a hurry. They are now drinking water and yes – playing in it. This week weather permitting they’ll be introduced to water in the kiddie pool and they’ll really play in it! They are having a great time playing with each other and the toys. Learning that a hard bite on an ear is not the proper way to interact with brother or sister – they squeal/bite back/run away/turn their back. Suspension exercises are more difficult because of their size. They are quite confident and it’s a joy to have them – lots of work but I love the job!
*April 27th Update!*The puppies are growing rapidly ...by 3 weeks they were all 5 times their birth weight plus. By 4 weeks all between 6 & 1/2 and 7 & 1/2 pounds! All are walking well and trying out their ability to run and jump. The interaction between them is so cute and entertaining. And Yikes! those pin-sharp puppy teeth have already emerged - Genny can tell that :) They started on solid food on their 4th birthday and haven't missed a lick - literally! I sit with them often to cuddle & play along with teaching them bite inhibition. The suspension exercises and holding them like babies has reinforced their quiet confidence. They absolutely love people and are already learning to come when called. They give "kisses' and look right into my eyes - they are very happy souls but still sleep most of the time.
*2 Week Update!* Genny & Briar babies are growing like crazy at two weeks old (Friday April 9th). Almost all had quadrupled their birth weights - that's 4 pounds! All are walking nicely (this is early to be so steady on their feet). They are doing so well. Genny is such an excellent mother! She keeps them so well groomed - of course I help by trimming toenails (fronts only for the 1st 3 times so they could grip with backs to strengthen those back legs) but today all the way around - that's 108 toenails plus all 8 adults dogs today also at 136 – that’s 244 toenails!
Names for this litter are of the theme/category Epic Winter and related things. Suggested by Susie Crawford (Gipper and Huckleberry’s Mom). We went with the following in birth order: NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Admin), Hailey (for all those hail storms), Blanche (girlie adaption of avalanche), Blizzard (we had many), Toby (short for toboggan – sled or hat), Flurry(as in lots of snow flurries to pile up 22.5 feet). These are just “call” names that we use for here – you will give them whatever name you want when they come home. Their eyes popped open at 12 - 14 days, along with ears coming open at the same time. They do not have the eye muscle strength to focus real well yet. It's really cute to watch them discover their new senses and sometimes quite funny when they hear their own voices - the 'howling' and trying out a bark or two. The 'official' portrait of Briar & Genny's Family was taken at 7 days old - hope you enjoy it! The small colored dots on the shoulders of the puppies are put there by me - it's finger nail polish so that I can keep track of which puppy is which for weigh-ins, testing, my observations/notes etc. Today was the last day for the neurological stimulation exercises and also the 'Isolation Box' exercises from the 'Monks of New Skeet'. We have been busy - with a purpose in mind and for your benefit! Puppies will be 3 weeks old next Friday so we will be welcoming visitors by appointment. Our Open House is planned for Saturday, May 8th from 1-3 PM. The way our weather is dependent on the storm frequency we will have a rain-date for Sunday the 9th. It's always much nicer to have the puppies outside for this event.
*Day 6 Update!* The babies are 6 days old today! All are doing great – they were 14-16 ounces at birth. With each gaining around 3-4 ounces daily, they weighed in today at 31oz. - 2 lb. 3.5oz !!! Most doubling their birth weight at just 5 days old – amazing and a tribute to Genny’s health and milk supply along with the health & vitality of each little one. I have cut front toenails twice - these are very nice puppies :) We are on the 4th day of Early Neurological Stimulation. They can already wobble/maneuver all the way around the whelping box 4x4 ft. square. Genny is a wonderful mother - enjoying every moment and does not want be away from her brood for very long – even to go to the bathroom. She’s doing a great job. Their Temperament Test is scheduled for the 14th of May.
GoldenMoon Labs is proud to announce the arrival of Genny and Briar babies! GoldenMoon's Thyme For Thanks, CGC,WC, JH & CH Buttonwood Briar puppies were born on Friday, March 26, 2010. Genny spent most of Thursday afternoon and into Friday AM hours in pre-labor activities of panting, nesting, biting/barking at her sides, and nudging me to stay awake with her through the night – knowing I would be there to help when the puppies came. When full blown contractions did finally come around 8AM on the predicted date, she had a great delivery (after we got past the 1st puppy which was still born). The rest came about every hour. We have been blessed with 2 yellow boys and 1 yellow girl and 2 black boys and 1 black girl. They are all beautiful, precious, healthy bundles of joy! We are very thankful for each one. Genny and all 6 babies are very healthy, happy and contented. When I weighed them today at 1 day old - each had gained between 2 – 3 ounces – which is fantastic! Usually, we just hope that they maintain their weight and don’t lose any the first day. Genny did a great job and the babiesare energetic, aggressive nursers! Briar celebrated by earning his Championship Title Saturday at NJ Shows!!!
Please enjoy some brand new pictures of Genny and the puppies below.
Puppy hugs & milky kisses!

GoldenMoon Labs has bred Golden Moon Lab's Sunny Coreopsis, CGC, WC - "Corey" with CH Beechcroft’s Sudy In Black - "Study" in early March 2010.
*May 24th Update* A lot has been happening here at GoldenMoon Labs... With all of the wk 7-8 activities, Open House, evaluations and preparations for going home with Genny’s Family this update was put on hold so that I could have maximum hands on with both litters and each individual puppy. They don’t know the word “wait” – hopefully you understand as puppy development and proper placement is of utmost importance to us here at GoldenMoon Labradors. Most of Genny’s puppies are in their adoptive homes starting their newest life adventure with those wonderful families that have welcomed them. Corey & Study babies are growing like crazy. At two weeks old (Saturday May 15th) almost all had quadrupled their birth weights - that's 4 pounds! At 3 weeks old (Sat. May22nd) almost all had gained 5 times their birth weight ~ chunky/very sturdy bodies. They are doing so well.
All are walking nicely and trying to run. They have discovered each other’s face and are mouthing their siblings in play behavior. With that comes vocalizing a whole range of sounds from squeaks, growls, chatters and even howling and barking. The funny part is that when one tries it out the others try to mock that sound/tone and duration. Corey is such an excellent mother! She keeps them so well groomed esp. faces - of course I help by trimming toenails (fronts only for the 1st 3 times so they could grip with backs to strengthen those back legs) but on the 19th & 22nd all the way around - that's 108 toenails each time.
Names for this litter are of the theme/category famous Baseball Players - suggested by Susie Crawford (Gipper & Huckleberry’s Mom). We went with the following: From the Yankees Casey (Casey Stengel). Mickey (Mickey Mantle), From the Pirates Maz (Bill Mazeroski - he’s a pretty nice guy who still fishes at Deep Creek Lake – hit the famous bottom of the ninth inning home run in the 7th game of the 1960 World Series to beat the heavily favored Yankees) Susie’s favorite/hero Roberto (Roberto Clemente – great baseball player and humanitarian who died in a plane crash into the ocean at San Juan airport New Year’s Eve 1972 while escorting a planeload of relief supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua). And Matty for Christy Mathewson – famous Hall of Fame left-handed pitcher for NY Giants –– was a real gentleman in the early days of the sport – won over 300 games but never pitched on Sundays because he was religious. The one and only girl – Dottie for Dorothy Kamenshek - most famous woman in baseball history Sports Illustrated named her on its list of the top 100 female athletes of the century. She just died today at age 84. These are just “call” names that we use for here – you can give them whatever name you want when they come home.
Their eyes popped open at 14 - 16 days, along with ears coming open at the same time. It's really cute to watch them discover their new senses and starting to play with fuzzy toys reacting to sqeakers and rattlers in those toys ~ quite entertaining J And Yikes! those pin -sharp puppy teeth have already emerged - Corey can tell that. The 'official' portrait of Corey & Study’s Family was taken at 9 days old - hope you enjoy it! The small colored dots on the shoulders of the puppies are put there by me - it's finger nail polish so that I can keep track of which puppy is which for weigh-ins, testing, my observations/notes etc. Attached also find pictures of the neurological stimulation exercises and the 'Isolation Box' exercises from the 'Monks of New Skeet'. Suspension exercises are the daily goal right now. We have been busy - with a purpose in mind & for your benefit! Puppies turned 3 weeks old Saturday, May 22nd and had their 1st official visitor, Holly. She willingly socialized & lovingly cuddled each one and then shared her pictures, which can be seen with others in the slideshow.
*May 10th Update* The babies are doing great – they were 13.5-17 ounces at birth. With each gaining around 2-3 ounces daily, they weighed in yesterday(1 week b'day) at 33-40oz. !!! More than doubling their birth weight– tremendous! and a tribute to Corey’s health and milk supply along with the health & vitality of each little one.
We are on the 6th day of Early Neurological Stimulation. They can already wobble/maneuver all the way around the whelping box 4x4 ft.square. Corey is a wonderful mother - enjoying every moment & does not want be away from her brood for very long – even to go to the bathroom. She’s doing a great job. She's a "head to toe" gal - cleaning each one and ending with their sweet faces :) We’ll be having an Open House for all the owners on the June 12th from 1-3 in the afternoon. This is a requirement. So, if you cannot make it on that day, you must make an appointment to come at another time. Unless you already own a GoldenMoon Labrador or have already been here for a visit. You are welcome to come for a visit after the 22nd of May (puppies will be 3 wks old) by appointment. However, our planned Open House will be the ideal age for you to meet all the puppies, socialize, and play with them. We also teach you to clip toenails, clean ears and learn the massage along with lots of other information. Their Temperament Test is scheduled for the 19th of June with go-home starting Sat. the 26th of June.
*April 26th Update!* On this past Friday Corey's x-rays showed 9 and possibly 10 puppies!!! She's doing great - even fatter as each day goes by :) Expected delivery date is Friday.
*May 2nd Update!* GoldenMoon Labs is proud to announce the arrival of Corey and Study babies!!! CH GoldenMoon's Sunny Coreopsis, CGC,WC & Am Can BISS CH Beechcroft’s Study in Black puppies were born on Saturday May 1, 2010. Corey spent most of Thursday, Friday, and into Saturday AM hours in pre-labor activities of panting, nesting, biting/barking at her sides, and nudging me to stay awake with her throughout the entire time – knowing I would be there to help when the puppies came. When full blown contractions did finally come around 3:30AM on Saturday, she had a touch & go delivery ~ her very 1st baby was a precious black girl – I took as a reminder of Great Grandma Abby that had just died on Thurs the 22nd of April. The first three came about every 30 mins. The rest took longer. Being a breeder is not for the faint of heart – this was a tough one and I learned many things.
These are the stats… The odds are that about 20% of puppies die at birth – we lost 4 out of the 10 – 25% We lost 2 black males and 2 yellow females. There was nothing wrong with those that died other than they were in the birth canal too long. Because there were so many, packed so tight, and Corey had been in pre-labor dilating so long (as a brand new 1st time Momma) she lost the ability to push hard(full labor contractions) to deliver the puppies fast enough once they had detached from the uterine wall. After the 2 yellow sisters (puppies 6 & 7) were born dead I decided to go to the vets for a c-section to deliver the rest. A black boy decided to pop out right as we were leaving – dead. Thankfully the last two babies were born alive & we rejoiced! There were 7 males and 3 females total. On paper the odds were that this litter should have been ½ black (carrying yellow) and ½ yellow. We had 70% black and 30% yellow.
We have been blessed with 1 yellow boy and 1 black girl & 4 black boys - beautiful, precious, healthy bundles of joy! ~ we are very thankful for each one :) Corey is healing nicely and all 6 babies are very healthy, happy and contented. Corey is a natural ~ an absolute wonderful Momma Girl! She even took right to her Motherly diaper related duties with enthusiasm When I weighed them today at 1 day old - each had gained between 2 – 3 ounces – fantastic! Usually, we just hope that they maintain their weight and don’t lose any the first day. I have attached pictures for you to enjoy! Check out the toenails – such healthy babies – I already cut all front ones today! The dots on their backs are fingernail polish so I can tell them apart. Corey is doing a great job (dogs live in the moment and Corey is LOVING this one!) The babies are healthy, energetic, aggressive nursers! Puppy hugs & milky kisses! Ellen, Larry & Our Corey Family
